L-3 Launches New Thermal-Eye® Renegade-320

A Multi-Purpose Thermal Imager That Is Packed With Features for Warfighters and Special Operations

DALLAS — Today, L-3 Communications, Infrared Products announced the launch of its much-anticipated Thermal-Eye® Renegade-320 thermal imaging system, the ideal multi-use tool for force protection, Border Patrol Officers, law enforcement professionals, SWAT units, and Special Operations Forces.

“The Thermal-Eye® Renegade-320 is designed for the operator in need of a single thermal imaging device that can multi-task as a handheld, a tripod-mounted surveillance system, and a thermal weapon sight,” said Don Rodrigues, L-3 Infrared Products VP and General Manager. “It’s the perfect surveillance tool,” he said.

The new lightweight system provides six hours of operation on four CR123 batteries. It also offers five different reticles, an optional laser, and an image capture feature that stores 200 pictures. The unique camera interface cable allows operators to simultaneously connect to external power, view the scene on a monitor, and download images to a computer through a USB connection. Once the images are transferred to a computer, they can be sent to a command center or stored on a hard drive.

L-3’s Thermal-Eye® Renegade-320 also gives users the ability to select their polarity preference – hot objects in the scene appear white (white-hot) or hot objects in the scene appear black (black-hot). The lightweight, rugged, and water submersible Thermal-Eye® Renegade-320 is available in three fields of view to support close, middle, and long-range operations. It provides unmatched versatility for urban reconnaissance, close-quarter or long-range intelligence gathering.

“The Thermal-Eye® Renegade-320 features were developed by focusing on the needs of our warfighters and operators,” said Rodrigues. “After obtaining critical end-user feedback from first responders, patrol units, SWAT teams, and U.S. military force reconnaissance groups, we constructed a highly versatile and advanced system that adapts to the changing needs of our soldiers and public safety professionals in the field,” he said.

End-user feedback also influenced the overall design and development process for the Thermal-Eye® Renegade-320 which today combines the ergonomic features of a handheld and the convenience of weapon mountable system into one Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) thermal imaging camera.

“Thanks to valuable customer involvement, the L-3 team produced the Thermal-Eye® Renegade-320 with intuitive advanced features that supports today’s sophisticated surveillance missions,” said Rodrigues. “This collaborative effort confirms L-3 Infrared Products is an industry leader in high-performance thermal imaging cameras.”
