IP Fabrics Adds Support for Cable Broadband Intercept to its CALEA Products

DeepSweep™ for CALEA systems now support CableLabs® safe harbor specification

Beaverton, OR – November 27, 2007 - IP Fabrics (www.ipfabrics.com) announced enhancements to its DeepSweep network surveillance systems that make it the first equipment supplier to support the Cable Broadband Intercept Specification (CBIS).  The CBIS specification was released on June 11, 2007 by CableLabs, a research and development consortium of North and South American cable TV companies.

The new specification will assist cable operators and law enforcement agencies in meeting the FCC’s Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) requirements.  Industry specifications are important for CALEA because cable operators that deploy solutions adhering to them obtain legal ‘safe harbor,’ protecting them from FCC penalties that would be levied for non-compliance.

“Availability of these products is crucial to both cable operators and the law enforcement community,” said Glen Myers, IP Fabrics CEO.  “They provide the necessary subscriber security and privacy, as well as the intercept and reliable delivery capabilities that are required for criminal investigations, counter-terrorism measures, and other electronic surveillance efforts.”

Enhancements to IP Fabrics’ DeepSweep for CALEA and Secure Buffered Delivery Systems
The new CBIS capability is available for all DeepSweep surveillance systems as an optional software Surveillance Module (SM).  The new SM complements the existing suite of DeepSweep SM’s, including T1.678v2 VoIP CALEA, ATIS-1000013.2007 (T1.IAS) Broadband CALEA, and other general surveillance modules.

The new CBIS SM utilizes the DeepSweep for CALEA system’s 1000GB storage subsystem to provide the temporary buffering required by the new specification.   It utilizes the same intuitive browser-based configuration interface to simplify the task of specifying the intercept attributes such as the case description, subject identifier, and delivery method.

Additionally, IP Fabrics’ stand-alone DeepSweep Secure Buffered Delivery (SBD) system is being enhanced to accept and buffer CBIS intercept data.  The SBD systems will now work with both ATIS-1000013.2007 and CBIS-compliant systems to provide reliable delivery to law enforcement agencies per their respective specifications.  The Secure Buffered Delivery system is packaged in a 1U, rack-mount appliance, and provides up to 2200GB of RAID10 buffering capability (enough to buffer more than 200 intercepts for 24 hours).

The availability of the DeepSweep CBIS upgrades is planned for December 2007.
