LINCOLN COUNTY, Colo. — A Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy is in serious but stable condition after a suspect shot him when he responded to a theft call.
Deputy Michael Hutton was shot multiple times while responding to the call near Limon, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Lincoln County sheriff’s officials just before 11 a.m. announced on Facebook that they found the suspect, ending an hours-long search that closed U.S. 40 from Limon to Kit Carson. The sheriff’s office did not identify the suspect.
Hutton responded to a call of a theft in progress just after 3 a.m. near milemarker 386 on U.S. 40, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Hutton was then ambushed and shot several times, according to the release.
The deputy was transported to a hospital in the Denver area.
It’s unclear whether Hutton fired back at the suspect, the sheriff’s office said.
