(OMAHA, Neb.) -- A decertified Nebraska State Patrol sergeant has asked a court to block the state from revoking his law enforcement license over accusations of attacking his wife.
Steve Hauser filed a request in Hall County District Court for a temporary injunction against the Nebraska Crime Commission and the Nebraska Police Standards Advisory Council.
The commission unanimously voted Nov. 1 to revoke the 20-year patrol veteran’s license for neglect of duty and emotional incapacity. The police standards council had recommended to the commission that Hauser be decertified after he was accused of assaulting his estranged wife in North Platte. The council is a subcommittee of the crime commission.
Hauser claims in the injunction request that the council’s recommendation and commission’s decision to revoke his license were not in compliance with Nebraska law.
Hauser was fired last year six months after being arraigned in Lincoln County Court on the assault charges. The charges were reduced, and Hauser was sentenced to 14 months of probation and entered into a domestic violence intervention program.
An arbitrator ruled earlier this year that Hauser’s firing violated his labor contract and ordered that he get his job back. In August, Hauser was transferred from North Platte to desk duty at the patrol’s headquarters in Lincoln.
Since his license was revoked, Hauser has been put on administrative leave.
