(ADAMS COUNTY, Colo.) -- A sheriff’s deputy has been placed on leave without pay after he was found guilty of exposing himself to school children.
Jason Allen Holt, 33, faces up to six months in jail and a $500 fine for his crime. His sentencing will come on Feb. 22.
The deputy’s lawyer, David Juarez, told the Denver Rocky Mountain News yesterday that his client is disappointed and is planning his appeal. On May 8, outside Huron Middle School in Northglenn, Holt was seen inside his pickup truck “looking at magazines and inappropriately touching himself as children walked by,” according to the News.
“I was not so much surprised as disgusted,” Lanae Looney, an eyewitness, told the News. Looney wrote down Holt’s license plate number and gave it to the Northglenn police.
In court, Holt refuted the woman’s claim, saying that he was merely changing into his golf clothes. Magistrate Theresa Spahn, who heard the case without a jury, told the News that there is no golf course in that area.
This is not a first for Holt. In 1997 he was arrested for exposing himself to two girls in a supermarket. He was able to keep his job after a plea agreement in which he agree to stay out of trouble for a period of time.
Sheriff William Shearer would not comment on whether or not Holt would be fired, but spokesman Craig Colmen told the News, “One would think so, but it’s not an absolute.”
