(COOK COUNTY, Ill.) -- An off-duty sheriff’s deputy saved a woman from a holdup robber yesterday when he tackled the man in the snow.
Shirley Bullock was clearing the snow off her car when a gunman came up to her and aimed a cocked .38-caliber pistol at her head. He told her that he would kill her if she did not get in the car.
“I said, `God, this guy has a gun!’...I fell. I was screaming out loud on the ground,” Bullock told the Chicago Sun Times.
Michael Kemp, an off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s deputy was picking up dinner at a Chinese restaurant when he heard Bullock screaming.
“I saw this big guy grab the guy out of the car,” Bullock told the newspaper on Thursday. “He put a gun to his head. . . . Then, he grabbed him and threw him to the ground.
“This guy was an angel.”
The alleged robber, Jarod Brown, 18, is the son of an ex-supervisor where Bullock works, Payday Express, the newspaper reported.
Brown was charged with armed robbery.
“She yelled, `Help, he’s trying to rob me! He has a gun!’ ” Kemp said. “I pulled out my weapon and advised him to drop his.
“You don’t think about it,” he told the Sun Times. “You just react. That could have been my mother, my wife, my sister.”
