Whitehorse Yukon, May 31, 2005 The RCMP successfully intercepted a shipment over the weekend, which resulted in the largest drug seizure in the Yukon’s history. On Friday, May 27, 2005 in the early afternoon, the RCMP stopped a vehicle on the Alaska Highway south of Whitehorse where police officers detained the two passengers and seized the vehicle.
A subsequent vehicle search conducted by the RCMP Police Dog Service Unit found 101.25 kilograms (225 lbs.) of marihuana concealed in secret compartment in a skidoo deck. This equates to between approximately 33,750 to 55,625 joints, which were taken out of distribution and off the streets.
Kurtis Ray Croy, age 33 of Squamish, BC and Kyle MacDonald-Wolochatiuk, age 30 of Squamish, BC were arrested without incident and both charged with one count each of possession of marihuana for the purpose of trafficking (Section 5 (2)) pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. In a separate incident on Friday, May 27, 2005 at around 5: 30 p.m., the Dawson City Detachment executed two search warrants on three local residences. As a result, the RCMP seized over $5,000 in cash, a small quantity of marihuana and drug trafficking paraphernalia. They also seized 83 grams of cocaine, which equates to approximately 118 hits taken out of distribution.
As a result of this investigation, three individuals were charged. Robert Kevin Lowe, age 32, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking (Section 5 (2)) pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime (Section 354) pursuant to the Criminal Code. Denis Roland Sevigny, age 45, of Dawson City, was charged with one count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking (Section 5 (2)) pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and one count of possession of property obtained by crime (Section 354) pursuant to the Criminal Code. Christopher John Peterson, age 34, of Dawson City, was charged with one count of possession of marihuana (Section 4 (1)) pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The RCMP continue their investigations.
