S.C. Boy Finds Police Radio, Makes Fake Calls For Months

The Associated Press

The boy would sometimes spend hours on the radio, repeating what the officers said or asking them to repeat their dispatches. He also mimicked the codes deputies use, sheriff’s Capt. Allen Brandon said.

“Whatever he heard, he would come back and say it,” Brandon said. “You could tell it was a kid.”

Sometimes the boy would call for help and once, he tried to get deputies to respond to a fight, Brandon said.

The fake calls have been a nuisance, and Brandon said deputies are considering charges. They also want to know how the boy got the radio, issued by the sheriff’s office more than a decade ago.

The boy’s uncle said he found the radio in a used car at a Rock Hill dealership and brought it home,

The uncle did not know the boy had taken the radio from his bedroom, deputies said.

“I think he just got a kick out of being on the police radio and talking to us,” Brandon said. “Maybe he’s infatuated with the police. Maybe one of these days, he’ll become a police officer.”
