Suspected drug dealer shot after striking officer with vehicle

(PHILADELPHIA) -- A suspected drug dealer shot by police after he allegedly struck an officer with his car remains hospitalized, the Philadelphia Daily News reported.

At about 11:26 a.m. yesterday two officers investigating a burglary saw a man and a woman conducting a drug transaction in a gray and black Chevy Blazer, spokesman Cpl. Jim Pauley told the Daily News.

Shareem Hargrove, 24, put the car in reverse when he saw the two officers approach his vehicle, striking one of them.

When the other officer reached into the vehicle to turn it off, authorities said, Hargrove went for his gun, a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol. The first officer, who was not injured by the collision, fired one shot hitting the suspect in the stomach, according to the newspaper.

Hargrove was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he remains in stable condition. He has been charged with aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment and firearms and drug violations.

Pauley told the News that passenger Markeea Warren, 20, was found in possession of 69 packets of crack cocaine.

She was also arrested and charged with possession with the intent to delivery and other related charges, police said.
