ALHAMBRA, Calif.- A driver led officers on a freeway pursuit through two Southern California counties Tuesday before he was stopped and surrounded by SWAT team members in armored vehicles.
The person in the van was armed and was sought for investigation of an attempted kidnapping, Ventura County sheriff’s spokesman Eric Nishimoto said. The woman he had allegedly tried to kidnap was not hurt, he said.
The pursuit began in Ventura County northwest of Los Angeles and ended east of Los Angeles on Interstate 10 after the van ran over a spike strip and a California Highway Patrol officer used a cruiser to spin the van around.
The van ended up near a freeway wall and after a standoff with patrol units, armored cars were brought in to pin the vehicle in place.
Images of the chase were broadcast on television.
