Silvia Salgado woke up to a mother’s worst nightmare Saturday morning.
Her son, Jose Luis Pineda, 16, had been charged with hitting a Polk County, N.C., sheriff’s deputy with her minivan -- the one the teenager had stolen while she was sleeping.
“I didn’t think about hiding my keys,” Salgado said through an interpreter. “I never expected him to do something like that.”
