TOCCOA, Ga. — One man faces multiple charges and two police cars have extensive damage after an incident Tuesday.
Toccoa Police Chief Jackie Whitmire said the incident happened around 11 a.m. on South Pond Street in Toccoa, just south of Currahee Street.
“They had been to this residence before on this type of (verbal dispute) call,” Whitmire said. “The property owner was there, and he had pulled in the driveway in a big dump truck, and the officers pulled in behind him and were talking to both of the parties. The dispute was not out of hand, and they (the officers) said the guy driving the dump truck was as calm as he could be, but he left the dump truck running.”
That calm atmosphere changed, the chief said.
“According to the officers, he jumped in the dump truck and put it in reverse and flew back,” Whitmire said. “He did not just hit two of our police cars; he ran over two of our police cars. They are probably totaled. He put it back in drive, and they (the officers) were able to get him out of the truck at that time.”
Whitmire said Ronald Moss, 48, of South Pond Street, Toccoa, was charged with two counts of criminal damage to property and two counts of interference with government property. Moss was denied bond and was in custody at the Stephens County Detention Center on Wednesday evening, officials at the center said.
Whitmire also said that the Georgia State Patrol and the state Department of Public Safety motor carrier compliance division are investigating the accident as well and could file other charges against Moss.
The chief said nobody was injured in the incident.
