CLERMONT, Fla. — A 20-year-old man survived a 40-foot fall with minor injuries during a police pursuit this week in Clermont.
The fall took place after Brian Nicholas Hall ran from a traffic stop but failed to notice -- in the dark -- a 40-foot drop on the other side of a retention wall in front of him as police warned him to stop running. Hall was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for his injuries.
The traffic stop occurred just after 1 a.m. Monday as a vehicle Hall was riding in was traveling west on Oakley Seaver Boulevard . An officer noticed the license tags on the vehicle had expired and stopped it.
According to the arrest affidavit, Hall asked the driver and two passengers for their names and identifications. The officer said he discovered one of the passengers, later identified as Hall, gave him the wrong name.
Hall eventually gave the officer his real name, at which time officers began to put him in handcuffs on charges of providing false information. But the affidavit states Hall began to struggle with the officers, kicking at least one before running off.
According to police, Hall “blindly” jumped over the wall and hit the ground where he initially lay motionless. He eventually became responsive, was handcuffed and treated on the scene by paramedics before being taken to ORMC.
It’s not clear why Hall ran, but the police said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. No information was available about the extent of his injuries.
Hall was eventually taken to jail on the false information charge as well as charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
