PINETOPS, N.C.- The flooded-out community of Dodge City has a new life - and a wild one at that.
The Edgecombe County community near Pinetops was destroyed by Hurricane Floyd in 1999. But this week, law enforcement officers are in the empty streets for sniper training.
The only building left in the community is a church, but the paved streets are still there, along with traffic signs. The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Department uses the area to train officers to drive police vehicles, as well as other skills. It’s also building a K-nine training center there.
Six officers from a variety of agencies are in Dodge City this week for the department’s first sniper school.
