CLEVELAND — A 911 caller reporting the fatal shooting of the brother of Cleveland’s police chief says the man’s girlfriend confessed to killing him.
The caller said he found 34-year-old William D. Williams dead in the woman’s home early Tuesday. The caller said Williams’ girlfriend, Dana Johnson, was “acting erratic” and confessed.
Hours later, authorities tracking the 36-year-old Johnson stopped her vehicle on a western Pennsylvania highway. State police say she shot herself in the head as troopers approached her along Interstate 376 in Brighton Township, northwest of Pittsburgh. She died Thursday.
The Northeast Ohio Media Group reports the couple had an on-and-off relationship, including previous domestic violence allegations documented in police reports.
Cleveland police confirmed Williams was the brother of police Chief Calvin Williams.
