ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — After over 20 calls for service in about three years to one home in Escambia County, Florida, the sheriff finally had enough. On Tuesday, Sheriff Chip Simmons razed the building to the ground, removing what deputies call a constant and continuing nuisance, according to CBS 12.
But first, the sheriff used the house for a SWAT training exercise the day before the demolition.
Deputies said criminal arrests at the address include charges of active battery, violation of probation, kidnapping, domestic violence, manufacture of drugs, possession of a controlled substance, controlled substance without a prescription, possession of cocaine and weapons charges.
Neighbors have also made numerous complaints about the home, with the city’s code enforcement department handling complaints for unsafe structure, broken windows, solid waste, trash and debris at the residence.
“If you are engaged in criminal activity and are a continuing nuisance in a neighborhood, you could/will lose your right to live there,” Sheriff Chip Simmons told CBS 12. “Our neighborhoods deserve better and should not have to tolerate continuing illegal activity. This neighborhood became a better place today.”
