LOS ANGELES — A California Highway Patrol officer is receiving praise for the way he handled a disturbance call at a DMV office in central Los Angeles.

Fox5 News reports Officer Parra Rodriguez and his partner responded to a call about an argument at the Hope Street DMV on Tuesday afternoon. When he arrived, Rodriguez realized there was no disturbance – just a language barrier.

Video shared on CHP’s social media shows Rodriguez communicating with a woman using American Sign Language. He helped her and the DMV clerk navigate the state ID application process, and also paid the woman’s application fee.

The video of the interaction has been shared over 3,000 times on Facebook and over 600 times on Twitter. Viewers on both platforms praised Rodriguez’s selflessness and adaptability.

“How can I like this 100x more?” one commenter wrote. “This is the type of policing we know happens every single day and yet not enough ppl give props when it’s due. Good job Officer Rodriguez!”
