LIVE OAK, Calif. — Nicky “Clark Kent” Draper has always been interested in law enforcement.
On Saturday, the 8-year-old got a chance to try out life on the beat. He was sworn in as an honorary deputy with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, according to the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
His swearing in ceremony included a custom-made uniform, sunglasses, and badge. He attended a swing shift briefing and made an “arrest” during a staged traffic stop.
Nicky has long battled a serious illness that his family has not publicly identified. The boy undergoes regular chemotherapy sessions, according to the report.
When the sheriff’s office heard of Nicky’s interest in law enforcement, they invited him and his family to visit the station.
“Our hearts are with our hero Nicky and feel fortunate to have met him,” Sgt. Roy Morales told the publication.
