SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — Two prisoners, including one awaiting trial on a capital murder charge, have broken out of an East Texas jail.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office says Brian Allen Tucker of Sulphur Springs and John Marlin King of Cumby escaped from the Hopkins County Jail on Tuesday morning.
Both fled through a recreation yard used by female inmates at the jail in Sulphur Springs, about 75 miles northeast of Dallas. The two inmates apparently took off their jail uniforms outside the fence.
Deputy Alvin Jordan says sheriff’s deputies are searching nearby woods.
Tucker was being held on $1 million bond in the 2011 death of Bobby Riley of Mahoney. Riley was strangled in his home. King was being held on an evading arrest charge.
Local schools have been locked down.
