NEW YORK- An officer who was part of an undercover narcotics operation came across a teen with a knife in the hallway of the building and fired two shots at him, hitting him once in the leg, police said.
Christopher Grajales, 16, was admitted to a Brooklyn hospital in stable condition after the shooting on Saturday evening.
Police recovered the knife at the scene. It was unclear why the boy was in the hallway, police said.
Ivette Vega, the boy’s mother, told the Daily News in Sunday’s editions that Grajales, recently returned to New York from Puerto Rico, thought family members were being hurt and was trying to help.
