A 30-year-old Alamogordo man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly brandished a knife and threatened Alamogordo Department of Public Safety officers, an ADPS spokesman said.
Supervisory agent Mike Mirabal said Anthony Miranda is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance heroin, resisting or obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Mirabal said Miranda was also served with a Municipal Court arrest warrant for alleged failure to appear in a separate and unrelated case.
Miranda was jailed at the Otero County Detention Center on a $23,500 no-10 percent bond pending his appearance in count.
Mirabal said ADPS officers attempted to serve Miranda the Municipal Court arrest warrant around 8:55 a.m. Thursday.
He said ADPS officers made contact with Miranda in the 1000 block of 16th Street but Miranda fled on foot while officers were attempting to place Miranda under arrest.
Mirabal said during the pursuit with officers, Miranda was able to hide behind a dumpster in the area. Officers subsequently located Miranda but Miranda brandished a knife while threatening officers.
He said officers were able to talk Miranda into dropping the knife.
Mirabal said officers conducted a search of the area where Miranda was arrested and found the suspected heroin that Miranda allegedly discarded prior to his arrest.
