PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia officials on Wednesday announced that they are putting into effect a 9 p.m. curfew to try to cut down on the unrest that has flared up following the police killing of Walter Wallace Jr., according to a story on 6abc.com.
This citywide curfew will extend until 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the abc6.com report, which noted that stores, restaurants and pharmacies will have the option of operating delivery services after 9 o’clock tonight.
Some business owners in the city’s Port Richmond section spent Wednesday cleaning up damage while boarding up windows and doors, the story said.
Wallace was fatally shot by police Monday after authorities say he ignored orders to drop a knife.
According to the Associated Press, about 500 people gathered in a West Philadelphia park Tuesday evening, marching to the nearby police headquarters where officers were stationed with riot shields. Some of the demonstrators threw debris at officers, according to police, and both sides later clashed.
Police said two officers were injured, although authorities did not disclose the extent of their injuries, according to the report.
