NEW YORK — A judge has ordered the release of a summary of misconduct findings against the New York City police officer who held Eric Garner in a fatal chokehold.
The New York Times says state Supreme Court Justice Alice Schlesinger granted a freedom of information request from the Legal Aid Society. The ruling was released late Wednesday.
Legal Aid had asked for the number of complaints against Officer Daniel Pantaleo that had been substantiated by the Civilian Complaint Review Board. It sued the city after the board refused the request.
The judge ruled the information was not exempt from disclosure under a provision of the state’s civil rights law.
The city says it’s reviewing the decision.
A grand jury has declined to indict the officer. A federal inquiry is ongoing.
