JERUSALEM -- Israeli police acting at the request of the FBI have arrested an Israeli youth for allegedly hacking into and damaging a police computer system in Pennsylvania, authorities said Wednesday.

The 19-year-old suspect was released on bond after a hearing Wednesday in the southern city of Beersheba, said police spokesman Gil Kleiman. He would not give the youth’s name.

The hacking destroyed some records in the computer system of the police department, Kleiman said, adding that he did not know which department in Pennsylvania had been affected.

Kleiman said the suspect may be charged with computer fraud.

The suspect told police he had no idea what he was doing and did not know that he had entered the police computer system.

Israeli police have in several instances, at the request of the FBI, arrested citizens suspected of hacking computers of U.S. companies and agencies.
