GOSHEN, Calif. — An Exeter police officer was found dead Friday at a home in Goshen, Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said.
The officer was identified as Daniel Green, 31, a 10-year veteran of the department. Boudreaux said he could not discuss the cause of death.
The case is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department and officers from the Visalia Police Department.
The report of a suspicious death at a Goshen home came at 4:39 p.m., spokeswoman Meghan Rapozo said.
Exeter police chief Cliff Bush and other Exeter officers are at the scene in the 7000 block of Lickey Street in Goshen.
“We are aggressively investigating the case, with numerous potential leads into this crime,” Boudreaux said.
He said Exeter officers are very upset about the death of their colleague. Through an intermediary, Bush declined to speak with reporters covering the story at the scene.
Visalia police are helping so the case can be investigated by as many people as possible, the sheriff said.
Officers come in contact with many different kinds of people, but it’s not known if the homicide is connected to Green’s duties as an officer, Boudreaux said.
There are “several potential leads and potential suspects,” he said.
The street was blocked off by crime tape and officers were coming and going for hours.
A distraught young woman arrived at the scene earlier Friday evening. Officials walked with her toward the home where Green’s body was found.
