SC police arrest department break-in suspect

A 911 caller first notified police that two men in dark clothing appeared to be breaking into one of the buildings

PERRY, S.C. — A Perry, S.C., man has been charged in a late April break-in at an Aiken County police department.

Orangeburg and Aiken County police working on a tip arrested Fredrick Oneil Sampson, 26, on Tuesday in Orangeburg County on charges of third-degree arson, grand larceny and two counts of second-degree burglary. He is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.

On April 28, Aiken County sheriff’s deputies were called to assist after someone broke into the Perry Police Department and Town Hall, 1075 E. Railroad Ave., taking a police car, weapons and other property.

A 911 caller first notified police that two men in dark clothing appeared to be breaking into one of the buildings. Responding officers discovered forced entry on three of the buildings. An incident report stated a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria car, handgun, shotgun and other police equipment missing.

The vehicle was recovered several hours later in Orangeburg County with minor damage.

The stolen weapons and other property are still missing.
