SAN JOSE — Police released video footage of an Oldsmobile Cutlass crashing through the front of an East San Jose Walmart on Easter Sunday in hopes that some of the people nearly struck by the car can be identified.
Haamid Ade Zaid, of San Jose, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of felony vandalism, as well as misdemeanor charges related to the crash into the Story Road retailer.
The video shows the Cutlass ram through the Walmart’s glass doors, narrowly missing about a half dozen shoppers, then reverse a short distance before driving farther onto the store’s floor.
Zaid reportedly then got out of the vehicle, picked up a metal bar and swung it at people, injuring an employee and three shoppers before being tackled by onlookers and tied up with belts until police arrived.
Prosecutors said Zaid was also involved in a similar crime last December, when a different car was crashed into a minimart on the Capitol Auto Mall.
Police ask anyone appearing in the video or who can identify any of the people at the scene call investigators at 408-277-4161.
