FOREST LAKE, Minn. — A seven-year veteran K-9 has died after suffering a medical emergency following the apprehension of a suspect.
Forest Lake Police K-9 Ranger was assisting with a high-risk traffic stop Tuesday when the suspect resisted, KARE11 reported.
Ranger was deployed and detained the suspect. Following the apprehension, police told the news station Ranger collapsed and suffered a “cardiac event.” He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
“He will always be remembered fondly by the thousands of kids and citizens whose lives he touched over the years at numerous demonstrations, events, and tours, while feared by those who made the mistake of committing a criminal act,” Sgt. Mark Richert said in a statement.
