ZION, Ill. — Police questioning Jerry Hobbs about the 2005 stabbing murders of his daughter and her friend threatened, pressured and even punched the former Zion man to force a phony confession from him, Hobbs contends in a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday.

One investigator even warned “that God would punish him for killing the girls,” and others with the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force made him look at graphic photos of the girls’ bodies, the suit says.

Charges against Hobbs were dropped in August, and he was released after DNA evidence was matched to another man.

Hobbs is expected to join his lawyers today at a news conference to discuss his lawsuit.

Hobbs’ 8-year-old daughter, Laura, and her 9-year-old friend, Krystal Tobias, were stabbed to death, and there were indications Laura Hobbs had been sexually assaulted.
