TROY — A city police officer was charged Thursday with forcibly touching a woman at her place of work and while in his police uniform.
Kevin M. Weatherby, 28, of Cohoes, was arraigned on misdemeanor counts of forcible touching and third degree sexual abuse, according to Capt, John Cooney.
“No further facts or findings regarding this matter will be released,” Cooney said in a prepared statement.
Weatherby, who has been with the department for a year, was arrested after a complaint by a 19-year-old woman who reported Weatherby subjected her to alleged inappropriate physical contact at a local business where she was working, Cooney said.
Weatherby was also working at the same business in an off-duty capacity without the required departmental approval and was also wearing his police uniform which was not authorized, Cooney said.
After his arraignment Thursday in City Court, Weatherby was released on his own recognizance.
Cooney said Weatherby was relieved of duty and both criminal and internal affairs investigations are ongoing. The department has served notice of their intent to terminate his employment, Cooney added.
