OAKLAND, Calif. — A police traffic sergeant was treated and released for minor injuries Thursday morning after being thrown from his motorcycle when it was hit by a van in the Oakland hills, police said.

Sgt. Mark Dunakin suffered cuts and bruises and had severe pain in his left wrist and a right leg as a result of the collision.

The collision happened about 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of Skyline Boulevard and Redwood Road. Police said Dunakin was making a left turn from Skyline onto Redwood Road when he was hit by a van going westbound on Skyline.

The impact caused Dunakin to be ejected from his motorcycle. He then bounced off the hood of the van and landed in the street, police said.

The van driver, who was questioned and released at the scene, was not injured. His name was not released.

The collision remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to call police at 510-238-3155.
