PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Police Motorcycle Drill Team and the Strike Force Bicycle Stunt Team went through some of their paces today at City Hall during a lunchtime rally for the Philadelphia Hero Thrill Show.
Fire trucks also circled the block and traffic slowed in the area as scores of spectators, including Mayor Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey, looked on.
The outdoor spectacular, scheduled this year for Sept. 12 at the Wachovia Spectrum, raises educational funds for survivors of police and fire personnel who die in the line of duty in the city.
The 5-1/2-hour sports-complex show also will include performances by the Police & Fire Pipes and Drums, demonstrations by the elite K-9 Unit and the fire department, and displays of crime-fighting equipment by the Marine Unit, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit and the Aviation Firearms Unit.
A carnival midway will offer amusements, games, dunk tanks, clowns and face-painting for children.
The show’s raindate is Sept. 19.
Tickets - $10 for individuals, $25 for families - are available at local police and fire stations, or through www.comcasttix.com.
