ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Security footage caught an off-duty police officer’s quick response to a man choking at a local Buffalo Wild Wings.
Trooper Dennis Palaia was at the restaurant watching football with his son on Sunday when he noticed a patron in distress and sprung into action, the L.A. Times reported. The man exhibited signs that he couldn’t breathe, so Palaia performed the Heimlich maneuver on him.
After four abdominal thrusts, the officer was able to clear the man’s airway, leaving him with only a sore throat and aching ribs.
The New Jersey State Police shared the story on Facebook and praised the officer’s quick thinking, which they said “undoubtedly prevented a tragedy.”
