PEORIA, Ill. – A sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed Tuesday while responding to a battery and disturbance in a rural area in Fulton County.
According to the Quad-City Times, 39-year-old Deputy Troy Chisum responded to the scene of the disturbance when multiple shots were fired.
The four-year veteran of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department later succumbed to his wounds.
The suspect was barricaded in a home and the scene is reportedly still active, but contained and there’s no risk to the general public.
“Deputy Chisum dedicated his life to the service of his community. His legacy and sacrifice will forever be remembered,” Fulton County Sheriff Jeff Standard said.
