LAKE CHARLES, La. — Louisiana State Police are mourning the loss of a colleague that suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty Tuesday.
Sgt. Tracy Morgan, 51, assigned to the Gaming Enforcement Division, was on duty when he collapsed while walking from a parking garage to a main building, police said in a press release.
“Troopers and medical personnel working in the building administered CPR until Acadian Ambulance arrived. Despite the best efforts of those who came to his aid, Sgt. Morgan was pronounced dead at CHRISTUS-St. Patrick Hospital,” Sgt. James Anderson, Louisiana State Police spokesman, said.
According to the department, Morgan served as a U.S. Marine and was an officer with the Lake Charles Police Department before becoming a state trooper in 1994.
“He epitomized what it meant to be a trooper,” Col. Mike Edmonson, Louisiana State Police superintendent, told WBTV. “He will be missed by us all.”
