A New Orleans police officer resigned Monday after video cameras caught him placing stolen merchandise in his personal vehicle after working a security detail at an Algiers store.
Fourth District Officer Kelvin Jackson, an eight-year veteran of the department, was booked with theft and possession of stolen property after $3,000 in goods was taken from the Wal-Mart Super Store at 4001 Behrman Highway, said officer Garry Flot. Jackson, who was arrested by the department’s Public Integrity Bureau, was released Tuesday afternoon, but the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff’s Office declined to say how much Jackson’s bond was.
Police were notified after the store’s cameras caught Jackson placing merchandise in his vehicle after he finished working at the store Monday, Flot said. Jackson was arrested around 7 p.m. at his home, where the stolen property was recovered. Flot would not say what the merchandise was.
