NEW YORK - The New York Daily News today reported that city cops have fixed tickets for the likes of Jay-Z, Alex Rodriguez and the late George Steinbrenner, as well as three current city council members.

According to sources, the practice was so rampant that reps for the celebrities would call police headquarters directly to have tickets dismissed.

The Daily News reports that Rodriguez was issued a speeding ticket in 2009 by highway patrol, and the ticket was later squashed by a NYPD sergeant. The full version of the article lists several other specific examples, including “lost” paperwork that allowed Jay-Z to avoid a speeding ticket.

The allegations surfaced during an investigation into broader ticket-fixing within the department. Sources say as many as 40 cops could be indicted for improper conduct due to this latest revelation.
