SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Five Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers performed CPR on a man who had recently been on a cruise ship with two patients suspected of having COVID-19.

Sunnyvale DPS Chief Phan Ngo told news outlets Thursday that it has not been determined if the 72-year-old man displayed COVID-19 symptoms.

It’s unclear at this time which cruise line the man had previously traveled on. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, Ngo added.

In a media release, Sunnyvale DPS said the five officers were quarantined “out of an abundance of caution” but have since returned home. They are not showing any symptoms of the disease, KTVU reports.

“We have seen reports that the officers performed mouth to mouth,” Ngo said. “That did not happen. The officers follow EMS procedures when they perform CPR.”

SDPS said they are following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Santa Clara County Public Health department guidelines on this case.
