MIAMI — Police are investigating a crash that killed two men in a Northwest Miami-Dade intersection, which later became the scene of another accident that killed a dog.

At about 4 a.m. Sunday, a man driving a 2007 Hyundai east on Northwest 54th Street sped through a red light and struck a Nissan X-Terra heading north on Northwest 32nd Avenue, according to Miami-Dade police. Both drivers died in their cars. Investigators have not released their names.

While officers were investigating that crash, a 2009 Nissan Maxima heading north on 32nd Avenue barreled through the accident scene and fatally hit a dog, according to police. Officers nabbed the driver — Juan Alberto Frias, 29, of 3315 NW 96th St. — a few blocks away and arrested him on charges of driving under the influence.

Police are working to find more information about the first crash and ask that the driver of a white pickup truck with blue lettering that was spotted at the scene come forward with any information.
