IOWA CITY, Iowa — Police arrested a man who was on the run after strangling an officer.
University of Iowa student Brandon Plummer, 20, seen in surveillance footage below, was arrested and charged with attempted murder for placing an unidentified officer in a chokehold two weeks ago, according to KCRG. Plummer was stopped for disrupting traffic and attacked the 29-year-old police veteran — leaving him with cuts, scrapes and bruises — before fleeing the scene.
In the video, the dangerous exchange between the officer, Plummer, and witnesses is heard.
“Stop. There’s blood everywhere,” a woman is heard saying. “Seriously, stop. Let him go.”
Plummer used his forearm to restrain the officer from behind, securing the hold with a wrist grab, according to a criminal complaint. According to a witness, Plummer also “slammed the officer’s head into the concrete and told him not to call 911.”
If convicted, Plummer could face at least 25 years in prison. In court Wednesday his hearing was set for December 12 and his bond set at $100,000.
The officer has recovered and returned to work since the attack.
