RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police shot down a man who fired a gun into a squad car, then took aim at two Richland Township police officers at the police station.
Kevin R. McGee, 45, was in the station parking lot Thursday morning when he fired one shot from a shotgun into an empty cruiser, The Daily American reported.
Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan said two officers, through a window of the police station, confronted McGee and told him to drop his gun. McGee then pointed the weapon at the window and police fired one time, hitting him in the torso.
McGee underwent surgery at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center to remove the ammunition. He was listed in critical condition Thursday night.
Neither officer was hurt.
Investigators have not determined a motive, Callahan said. A review of McGee’s criminal history revealed a February arrest by Richland Township police in which he was charged with disorderly conduct and possession of a controlled substance.
McGee will appear in court Sept. 25 in Johnstown and faces felony asssault and attempted murder charges.
