When was the last time you practiced empty-hand techniques or fired your sidearm or attended a defensive driving course? If you say, “I qualify once every year with my hand gun” you have stopped training. If you haven’t driven an Emergency Vehicle Obstacle Course since the academy you’ve stopped training. If you haven’t done any hand-to-hand — from passive resister types to full on close-quarter encounters — you’ve stopped training. If you’re not practicing gun retention, ground fighting, or use of your baton, cuffs or other tools, you’ve stopped training.
Let’s take a look at what is going on in our world right now. Right now is under greater attack than it has been in since the late 60s early 70s. We can put the blame where ever we please. The one thing we can’t blame on anyone is our own personal lack of training. That is on you!
My message today — to all who will put on a uniform and pin on a badge and buckle on a tool belt with your handy sidearm and cuffs — is simple: get your butt down to the local gym and get to the range this week. Work out with a few buddies. Make it fun and keep it tactical.
The life you save my be your own.
