CAMPBELL, N.Y. — A Painted Post-based New York State Trooper suffered serious injuries during a traffic stop on I-86 in the Town of Campbell just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to reports from WETM 18 News and various State Police officials.

The trooper was conducting a traffic stop when his or her vehicle was struck by a pickup truck, according to WETM.

A state police official at Troop E headquarters in Canandaigua confirmed that the trooper had been entrapped in their vehicle and had to be extracted before being airlifted for medical attention.

WETM reported that the trooper had been airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The incident closed I-86 both eastbound and westbound between exits 40 and 42 for more than two hours, and more limited closures continued into the evening as work continued at the scene.

Accident reconstruction at the scene was still ongoing late into Wednesday, according to Sgt. David Sweet of the Painted Post barracks.

New York State Police had not yet identified the trooper as of press time Wednesday.

It was also unclear if there were any other injuries in the incident, or if anyone had been taken into custody or was facing criminal charges.
