GULF BREEZE, Fla. — An officer was seriously injured Monday by a suspected DUI driver during a traffic stop.

According to the Pensacola News Journal, Sgt. Kerstan Tatro was dragged by 30-year-old Amy Lee Giorgio after she hit the accelerator as Tatro was speaking to her during a stop for a suspected DUI.

Tatro noticed Giorgio trying to put her vehicle into gear and reached into her window in an attempt to pull the keys out of the ignition, according to the report.

As Tatro struggled with Giorgio, she sped off — dragging the officer along with her.

Tatro suffered a compound fracture in his right arm during the incident. He was transported to a hospital, where he is expected to recover.

A motorist who witnessed Giorgio fleeing the stop followed her to a hotel parking lot and called the police, who took her into custody.

Giorgio was found to be in possession of drugs at the time of her arrest and appeared impaired. The suspect has a number of prior drug arrests and active warrants, including for cocaine possession and driving under the influence, according to the report.
