LUFKIN, Texas — Lufkin officers were nearly struck by a careening 18-wheeler as they attempted to help a stranded driver, Lufkin Daily News reported.
Officers Jason Vance and Seth Thompson were helping a stranded driver whose vehicle was stuck in a ditch, when a semi-truck came over a nearby hill at a high rate of speed. The driver of the truck slammed on their brakes which sent the trailer skidding towards the officers.
The officers and the stranded driver moved out of the way into a wooded area and managed to avoid the swerving truck. They suffered minor scrapes in the incident. The semi did not stop at the scene.
The driver of the semi later apologized after police conducted a search for him. He was not issued a citation.
“The men agreed that this has been a learning experience and they’re thankful no one was injured,” a press release by the department stated.
