DENVER, Colo. — A Denver police officer was injured and a suspect critically wounded during an altercation Monday afternoon in the 1200 block of Colorado Boulevard.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was responding to a 4:50 p.m. call about a suspicious vehicle near an apartment building.
Two minutes later, the officer radioed for help, saying he was involved in a physical fight with a suspect, according to police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
The officer fired his weapon, hitting the suspect in the torso, Jackson said.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center in critical condition.
The officer sustained lacerations to his head and face.
Those injuries were not considered life-threatening, authorities said.
Drugs were found nearby, police said.
Police investigators would not say what was considered suspicious about the vehicle near the building.
