FERGUSON, Mo. — Hacker collective Anonymous has launched a campaign against the Ferguson Police Department in the wake of the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.
Fox 2 reports the group, under the program they’ve coined “Operation Ferguson,” has warned of further consequences if police interfere with civilians protesting the shooting — threatening the online release of personal information of all officers on the Ferguson Police Department and further online attacks.
On Sunday, the group hacked the City of Ferguson’s website, resulting in the loss of city officials’ email functionality, according to KMOV.
They have also demanded legislators introduce “Mike Brown’s Law” — an act that would “set strict national standards for police conduct and misbehavior in the USA,” according to the group’s video release.
Anonymous have launched several campaigns against various organizations in the past, including the Albuquerque Police Department earlier this year after the fatal March 16 police shooting of James M. Boyd, according to the Albuquerque Journal. That attack resulted in the City of Albuquerque’s website temporarily going offline, causing a “significant disruption,” according to one official.
