ANTIOCH, Calif. — A man in his 20s who broke into a locked police car outside the Antioch police station to get the AR-15 rifle inside was shot by officers Monday after he repeatedly fled responding officers and made aggressive moves toward them, police said.
The man, who was not identified, allegedly used a steel bar to get into the patrol car at 3:21 p.m. Monday when he entered the front parking lot of the station. He grabbed the gun and ammunition and ran south on L Street for two blocks. He showed “signs of aggression’’ when confronted by officers, who fired, according to a police statement.
He tried to run again, but police set a police dog after him. The man was flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was being treated for his injuries.
The case is being investigated jointly by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office and the Antioch Police Department.
