WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Law enforcement officials in South Florida are searching for a gunman who fired shots at an off-duty Broward Sheriff’s Office detective who was on her way home from work.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy wasn’t hurt in the Tuesday morning shooting along an exit from Interstate 95 in Palm Beach County.
West Palm Beach police spokeswoman Lori Colombino says the deputy saw what she believed was a disabled car in the middle of the ramp. As she pulled up, a man got out and fired shots at the deputy, who is a plain clothes detective.
Colombio said the deputy returned fire and called 911. The car sped off in an unknown direction. Authorities say two men were in the car.
The gunman was black. The race of the detective wasn’t immediately available.
