ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man suspected of battering his girlfriend was shot Thursday by Orange County deputies who said he tried to run them over with his truck.
Joshua Lee Bond, 28, was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, sheriff’s spokesman Jim Solomons said.
Deputies responded to the 600 block of Slote Drive just before 6 p.m. to investigate an attack on a woman, Solomons said.
While deputies were interviewing the victim, Bond showed up at the house and used his truck to ram a car parked in the driveway, Solomons said; when officers tried to intervene, Bond turned the truck on the officers.
Two deputies fired at Bond, who was hit at least once.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident, which is standard procedure following an officer-involved shooting.
The names of the deputies were not released. Both will be placed on administrative duty for two weeks, Solomons said. This is the first officer-involved shooting in Orange County this year.
